During this pause we have continued to prepare our office and staff for the return of our patients. The office renovation is underway and will be completed in a couple of weeks. On May 26th, our doors will open with updated protocols to ensure staff and patient safety. As we are incorporating these new safety measures, we will start with an abbreviated schedule for the first few weeks of June. We plan to resume to a modified schedule with updated protocols, on June 15th.  We greatly appreciate your patience and flexibility during this time.

Staff & Patient Safety Measures

Entering Summerwood Family Dental:

Summerwood Family Dental clinic storefrontPatients will be screened by phone the day before their scheduled appointment for symptoms of COVID-19. When arriving, we will ask that they check in and sit in designated seats, appropriately distanced. If you arrive more than 10 minutes early, we may ask you wait in your car until your appointment time to lessen the number of people in the reception area.  Patients will be required to wear a mask before coming inside, where we will screen again and take temperatures.

Our staff will be wearing masks at all times and the front office is arranged to maintain social distancing. Although most of our paperwork is done digitally, should paper and pen be needed, we will have sanitized pens and paper. Items received from patients that cannot be sent digitally will be cleaned with either our sanitizing wipes or UV-C light sanitizer.

Clinical Protective Equipment:

We are committed to protecting our patients and staff at the highest level possible. The safety protocols at Summerwood Family Dental go well beyond the guidelines set forth by the CDC, OSHA and the state. Our staff will also be screened daily, including having their temperature taken.  Our clinical staff will use P100 masks, head coverings, and face shields in addition to our standard PPE. Items that are reusable will be sterilized according to updated CDC-COVID19 guidelines with sanitizing wipes and/or a UV-C light sanitizer.

We have installed built-in, ceiling mounted, industrial HEPA filters in each treatment room.  The rooms are now isolated with cleanroom soft wall curtain so dental aerosols do not drift around the office. All magazines, brochures, decorative items have been removed from the rooms so we can spray every surface of the room with CaviCide surface disinfectant and decontaminant cleaner, shown to be 99.99% viroidal, bactericidal, fungicidal and tubercidal.  There is an additional industrial overhead evacuation tube in each treatment room to remove the dental aerosols as they are produced. The entire HVAC system has a secondary commercial HEPA filter built-in, to sterilize the air.

We will also use disinfectant foggers, like the airline industry, to clean the air from aerosols generated.   Fogging the reception, common areas and restrooms is very effective in killing viruses and bacteria within minutes, while being harmless to humans.

For our hygiene patients, our hygiene treatment rooms are set up the same as the dental treatment areas.  Each room is isolated with “Cleanroom soft wall curtain” material.  The industrial HEPA filters are built-in to the ceiling, turning the air over in the room, 12x per minute. The overhead commercial evacuation units are positioned to capture the aerosols created while having a dental cleaning with an ultrasonic. After each patient, the rooms are sprayed on every surface and thoroughly wiped, then sprayed again to leave wet. The HEPA fan filter units are activated to dry and sanitize each room completely.

Scheduling Appointments

Additional time will be added to our appointments in order to adequately disinfect our treatment rooms and screen patients. We also have designed our schedule to allow for appointments that cater to patients who are at a higher risk due to age and/or medical history. These appointments are scheduled when there are fewer patients in the office and in areas of the office that are isolated from other patients.

We also have video conferencing set up through our website and can set up a virtual appointment for you if you prefer teledentistry visits, for reviewing treatment plans, and consultations.

Thank you again for your patience through this process. We greatly miss seeing you and are eager to reconnect with our Summerwood Family Dental Community.  If you have any questions or concerns, we are always happy and available to help.

Thank you and see you soon!
